6 Inch Square Tutorial SC/DC x
I have made a 6 inch Square for a charity event we are having on our group on facebook Crochet Learners Corner I have also been making for another page for Q.U.I.L.T for Baby Loss Memorial. So while I was making it I thought I would do a Photo Tutorial. Here Goes...
I am using DK yarn, this is Marriner, a brand I enjoy working with, nice and soft, and a 5mm hook
I am using DK yarn, this is Marriner, a brand I enjoy working with, nice and soft, and a 5mm hook
I chain enough to measure 6inch (this was 24 chains in my crochet) as we stitch into the 2nd stitch I am working with 23 actual stitches
We dont count the loop on the hook and count to the second chain, this is where we work our first stitch.
Put your hook through the stitch, yarn round hook and pull through, this gives you 2 loops on the hook, yarn round hook and through the 2 loops to complete your stitch, We are using SC (usa terms) DC (uk terms) work 1 stitch in each chain along the Foundation Chain.
at the end, remember to stitch into the last chain, chain 1, this is our turning chain, we do this every time we turn, we work our last stitch of the next row into the top of this chain. If you don't want to have tails to weave in after you have finished you can crochet over any tails just bring it up and lay it across the top of previous row, I haven't done this on this square but its an option.
We put our first stitch in the top of the first stitch of the row below.
Remember to use every stitch in the row or you will end with a triangle not a square!
Now! at this point you can carry on doing your chain 1 and SC/DC, but to be honest I get very impatient, so I have decided to do 4 rows of SC/DC and 2 rows of DC(usa) TR(uk), it just helps my square to 'grow' a bit faster. so..chain 2 to turn (as I am using a taller stitch now)
Yarn round the hook, through the stitch
Yarn round the hook and pull through the stitch
You now have 3 loops on the hook, yarn round hook and pull through 2 of your loops.
This leaves 2 loops on the hook, yarn round hook and pull through the remaining 2 loops on the hook
This completes the stitch, continue with this stitch along the row
Carry on with your rows until your square measures the 6inch we are working to.
At the last stitch, cut your yarn leaving a long tail (mine is around 3-4 inch long) yarn over hook and pull through the last loop,
Pull the tail right through the loop and pull tight to create a knot.
Thread your tail into a darning/tapestry needle
and weave your tail in and out of your stitches to stop anything unraveling,
I like to go back over the threading again just to be sure.
And there you go....... A 6 inch Square. Ready to join to others and create a big ole blanket.
I hope this makes sense...good luck and Happy Hooking x
